Businessman Lord Ibrahim Sani has officially declared his intention to contest Ghana's 2028 presidential election as an independent candidate, while unveiling a new political movement aimed at mobilising young people and grassroots communities across the country.

The movement, known as the Rising Generation Movement (RGM), was launched during an online event on Thursday, July 16, 2026. It seeks to promote youth participation in governance and champion a development agenda centred on accountability, integrity and inclusive growth.

Speaking at the launch, Sani said the movement was founded on a vision to restore public confidence in leadership, empower the youth and build a Ghana that delivers opportunities for all through practical policies, transparent governance and citizen-focused development.

According to him, Ghana's progress depends on a new generation of leaders who are committed to competence, accountability and public service rather than partisan politics.

"The Rising Generation Movement is a call to action for young people and all Ghanaians who believe our country deserves a new direction founded on integrity, opportunity and inclusive growth," he stated.

Sani argued that although Ghana possesses immense human talent and economic potential, many citizens have become increasingly frustrated with the country's political system and are looking for leaders who can produce measurable results instead of campaign promises.

He said the movement will prioritise policies on job creation, entrepreneurship, education, technology, youth empowerment and economic transformation while building a strong grassroots network ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The businessman added that his decision to run as an independent presidential candidate stems from his conviction that Ghana's development should rise above partisan interests and place the welfare of citizens at the heart of governance.

As part of its next phase, the Rising Generation Movement plans to embark on nationwide engagements to recruit members, develop policy proposals and expand its presence across the country in preparation for the 2028 elections.
