New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairmanship aspirant, Awentami Paul Afoko, has urged party members to move beyond political rhetoric and focus on practical measures to rebuild the party and restore public confidence ahead of the 2028 general election.

Speaking through a press statement to formally announce his bid for the party’s national chairmanship, Mr Afoko said the NPP’s return to power would depend on hard work, careful planning and reconnecting with the Ghanaian people rather than relying on political slogans.

“This is not the time for empty philosophy. This is the time for practical work,” he declared.

According to Mr Afoko, rebuilding the party requires a thorough understanding of the reasons behind its electoral setbacks and a deliberate strategy to recover lost ground across the country.

“We must know every constituency. We must know every polling station. We must know where we lost, why we lost, and how we can recover,” he stated.

He explained that the party must also strengthen its relationship with communities by listening to their concerns and rebuilding trust among key groups whose confidence is essential to the NPP’s electoral fortunes.

“We must listen to communities. We must repair relationships.

“We must rebuild trust with professional groups, traders, farmers, students, youth groups, women’s groups, faith communities, traditional authorities, civil society and the business community,” he said.

Mr Afoko stressed that rebuilding the NPP would require sustained engagement with the grassroots rather than periodic interaction during election seasons, adding that the party must once again become responsive to the everyday concerns of Ghanaians.

He further stated that the NPP must work to restore its reputation as the party associated with prosperity, business confidence, rapid development, social mobility, freedom and opportunity.

“We must once again become the party that Ghanaians associate with prosperity, business confidence, rapid development, social mobility, freedom and opportunity,” he noted.

Mr Afoko maintained that only a practical, disciplined and people-centred approach would enable the NPP to regain public trust and position itself as a credible alternative capable of returning to government.

According to him, rebuilding the party is not about lofty political declarations but about demonstrating through action that the NPP has learnt from its past experiences and is ready to govern with humility, competence, compassion and seriousness.
