Roads and Highways Minister, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has pledged three months of his salary to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, while appealing to contractors to support the establishment of a cardio centre in the Volta Region.

“Today, Mr President, I’ll commit three months more of my total salary to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund,” Agbodza declared during a citizens’ engagement as part of President John Dramani Mahama’s ResettingGhana Tour of the Volta Region on July 17, 2026.

According to him, the government’s largest capital expenditure since Mahama took office has been on roads, with contractors receiving the biggest share of resources.

He stressed that many contractors already go beyond road construction by investing in corporate social responsibility projects such as schools, clinics, and water facilities.

"Your Excellency, yesterday I heard the people appealing to you, and you directed that we will be able to build a new cardio centre in the Volta Region. Your Excellency, I am your current Road Minister. I know the volume of money we pass on to the contractors for their work, and many of them do beyond just building the road. They do corporate social responsibility; schools, clinics, water and other things," he stated.

Agbodza therefore urged contractors to extend their support to health infrastructure, particularly the proposed cardio centre in the Volta Region.

“I wish that my contractors would step forward and say we will contribute and build it on our own. Mr President, it’s just $15 million. Members of Parliament and Ministers of State have committed our salaries to that,” he said.

His appeal comes after President Mahama directed that a new cardio centre be built in the Volta Region, following public calls for improved healthcare facilities.
