South Africa’s President, Cyril Ramaphosa, has signalled that he will be sending envoys to Ghana in a bid to strengthen collaboration with African countries in tackling the continent's shared social and economic challenges.

The move, according to the South African leader, is inspired by President John Dramani Mahama's appeal for African nations to work together instead of confronting cross-border problems individually.

In a video broadcast, Ramaphosa said South Africa is shifting its approach from merely seeking understanding from fellow African states to building practical partnerships that can deliver lasting solutions.

“This time around, we'll be saying we want to work together. Work with us, and I'm rather pleased that President Mahama of Ghana has been saying he would like to make a call on other African countries to work with South Africa,” he said.

Ramaphosa disclosed that the envoys will engage Ghanaian authorities to outline South Africa's planned initiatives and explore areas of cooperation.

He noted that challenges confronting South Africa, including migration, unemployment, security and service delivery, are not unique to his country but are being experienced across the continent.

“This is an African problem. It's not only a South African problem. We are all involved in this,” he stated.

President Ramaphosa stated that the complexity of these issues makes it necessary for African governments to work together while also involving citizens and migrants, whether documented or undocumented, in finding sustainable solutions.

He maintained that no single country can address such challenges in isolation, stressing that collective action remains the best path forward.

The planned diplomatic engagement comes as several African countries continue to grapple with rising migration, unemployment and economic pressures, with leaders increasingly calling for stronger regional cooperation to address the challenges.
