Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has expressed confidence in retaining his seat in the 2028 general elections despite growing interest from prospective New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirants.

In a video sighted by GhanaWeb on July 16, 2026, Dumelo said he welcomes competition, describing it as a healthy feature of democracy that motivates him to remain focused on serving his constituents.

"I've seen a couple of people coming to contest on the NPP side. They want to contest their primaries and eventually contest me in the 2028 elections. It's a democracy. A lot of people are welcome to contest, but I'll continue doing my work," he said.

He acknowledged that while he may not be perfect, he remains committed to improving his performance and addressing the needs of residents in the constituency.

"I'm not 100 percent the best. I always strive to be 100 per cent. Competition is good because it keeps you on your toes and helps you listen to a lot of other problems and see how best you can solve them," Dumelo stated.

Dumelo also expressed optimism about his chances in the next election, stressing that the decision ultimately rests with the electorate.

"Hopefully in 2028, I'll surely win again. With the help of God and with the help of my constituents. Everything depends on my constituents. If they feel they need to vote for me to win again, they will," he said.

Responding to a question on whether he feels pressure from constituents, Dumelo said he views his mandate as a responsibility rather than a burden.

"I don't see pressure. I see it as work. I have to keep on working and make sure I satisfy everybody's needs and concerns. I can't do everything within the four years, but I'll try as much as possible to serve everybody," he added.
