The maiden edition of the Women Democracy Cup will be staged on Friday, July 31, 2026, at McDan Park in La, Accra, as part of activities under the Democracy Cup Project initiated by the Parliament of Ghana.

The historic fixture will feature a clash between Army Ladies and Police Ladies, two of Ghana's leading women's football clubs, who will battle for the inaugural Women Democracy Cup trophy.

Ahead of the main event, Parliament Ladies will take on Judicial Service Ladies in a curtain-raiser match.

The event will be hosted by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, while Vice President Her Excellency Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang is expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour.

Several distinguished guests are also expected to be present, including women leaders in Parliament, the Chairpersons of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Electoral Commission of Ghana, as well as members of the diplomatic corps.

The Women Democracy Cup forms part of the broader Democracy Cup Project, which comprises three flagship competitions , the Democracy Youth Cup, the Women Democracy Cup, and the main Democracy Cup fixture between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, scheduled for August 23 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Organisers say the Women's Democracy Cup will become an annual competition aimed at celebrating the contribution of women to Ghana's democratic development while providing a high-profile platform for women's clubs to showcase their talent, competitiveness, and contribute to the continued growth of women's football in the country.
