The Head of Strategy at the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, Abdul-Nasser Alidu, has revealed that the government has identified about eight million hectares of arable land across the country to support large-scale agricultural investment under the 24-Hour Economy programme.

He said that, contrary to the perception that land is scarce, Ghana has abundant agricultural land outside Accra, with efforts now focused on improving infrastructure and access.

Speaking at the CEOs Business Forum on the 24-Hour Economy on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Alidu said transport infrastructure around the Volta Economic Corridor would make farming and investment easier.

"When we look around the Volta Economic Corridor, we actually identified about eight million hectares of land that is arable and that we could use," he said.

He explained that the government is developing transport systems on the Volta Lake to reduce the cost of moving goods instead of relying solely on road networks.

"We are creating transportation on the Volta Lake so that you don't need to build highways in order to transport your produce," he stated.

Alidu further disclosed that the government has introduced a Participatory Land Access Model to simplify land acquisition while ensuring local communities benefit from investments.

"The participatory land access model makes land available to investors and also makes the communities part of the project," he explained.

According to him, communities will own minority equity stakes in projects developed on their lands, giving them a direct interest in ensuring the businesses succeed.
