Dozens of supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) gathered outside the headquarters of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Monday, July 13, 2026, demanding the release of former government official Dennis Miracles Aboagye.

The protesters converged at the EOCO premises following reports that Aboagye was arrested on Saturday at the Accra International Airport (AIA) by EOCO officers with the assistance of personnel from the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).

“No Miracles, no home,” NPP supporters could be heard chanting at EOCO premises for the release of Miracles Aboagye

Aboagye is reportedly being held as part of investigations into his tenure as Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation.

The NPP has expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding the arrest, alleging that the reasons for Aboagye's detention have not been disclosed by the authorities.

The party has also claimed that Aboagye has been denied access to his legal team since his arrest, an allegation that has not been publicly addressed by EOCO or the Ghana Immigration Service.

The development has heightened tensions between the opposition party and state investigative agencies, with the supporters gathered outside EOCO calling for transparency and respect for Aboagye's legal rights.

The arrest was first made public by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, who, in a Facebook post on Sunday, July 12, 2026, alleged that EOCO officers, with the support of immigration officials, arrested Aboagye at the airport.

Kodua called for the immediate release of the former government official, a demand that has since been echoed by several senior figures within the party, who are urging EOCO to publicly explain the basis of the arrest.
