Nigerian billionaire, Aliko Dangote, has revealed that he sold his luxury properties in the United States and the United Kingdom to dedicate himself fully to building his businesses in Nigeria.

Speaking in a video shared on X on July 12, 2026, Dangote said the decision was driven by his desire to remain in Nigeria and concentrate on expanding his industrial ventures rather than managing homes abroad.

“When I decided to go into industry, I sold all my properties in the USA. I had two houses; a big mansion in the USA and UK. I sold them all because I really wanted to sit in Nigeria and concentrate,” he explained.

The founder of the Dangote Group noted that he now leads a relatively simple lifestyle, preferring to stay in hotels whenever he travels instead of owning multiple homes overseas.

“My life is very simple. Wherever I go I use hotels and I pay, and nobody will call me and ask me for home maintenance,” he said.

Widely regarded as Africa’s richest man, Dangote has built businesses spanning cement, sugar, salt, fertiliser, and petroleum refining.

His investments have played a significant role in strengthening Nigeria’s manufacturing sector and reducing reliance on imports.
