An aspirant in the recently concluded New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency elections, identified only as Alex, has expressed disappointment over the growing monetization of Ghanaian politics.

In a widely circulated video, Alex, who contested in the elections held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, and Sunday, July 12, 2026, lamented that many of the 1, 600 voters demanded money before casting their ballots.

Speaking in an interview captured in the viral footage, he explained that he is neither a Member of Parliament nor a party organizer with access to large funds to sponsor voters.

He described the situation as disheartening and a major challenge for aspirants without financial backing.

“I am tired, my brother. About the 1,600 people going to vote for you, everybody needs money from you before going to vote. And when you ask them, all of them say they voted for you. The work is not easy, that is why I have come to sit here. I am even sad because I am not an MP or organizer,” he said.

Alex further stressed that the burden of financial demands makes the political process exhausting and discouraging.
