Ghana's Black Maidens have qualified for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup after defeating Senegal 7-6 in a dramatic penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their final qualifying tie at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The two-legged encounter ended 2-2 on aggregate after both sides had also settled for a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Dakar a week earlier.

Senegal stunned the home crowd by taking the lead in the 10th minute, putting the visitors ahead on aggregate and piling pressure on the Black Maidens.

However, Ghana responded just before half-time when captain Seidatu found the back of the net in the 44th minute to restore parity and revive the Black Maidens' hopes of qualification.

Both teams battled fiercely in the second half but were unable to find a decisive goal, sending the contest to a penalty shootout.

In the tense shootout, the Black Maidens held their nerve to triumph 7-6, sparking jubilant celebrations at the Accra Sports Stadium as they secured their place at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.

The victory marks another significant milestone for Ghana's youth women's football programme, with the Black Maidens once again earning the opportunity to compete on the world's biggest stage after overcoming a resilient Senegalese side.
