Residents of Kasoa-Nyanyano openly confronted the Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, Desmond De-Graft Kwesi Paitoo, over the stalled Gomoa Nyanyano road project during his visit to the place.

The MP, who had earlier participated in the nationwide clean-up exercise, was met by an angry crowd that hooted, heckled and demanded answers over what they described as years of neglect of the road linking Kasoa to Nyanyano.

Nyanyano residents embark on demonstration over deplorable roads

According to a report by adomonline.com, on July 10, 2026, residents said the road, which serves Gomoa Nyanyano and several adjoining communities with an estimated population of over 100,000 people, has deteriorated to the point of being dangerous to both motorists and pedestrians.

They blamed successive governments for repeatedly promising to fix the stretch without delivering, arguing that the road's poor condition continues to disrupt daily commuting and commercial activities.

Some residents further claimed that construction works came to a halt after the contractor allegedly abandoned the project due to delays in the release of mobilisation funds by the government.

The confrontation reportedly escalated as some taxi drivers joined residents in expressing their anger, forcing police officers at the scene to intervene and escort the MP away to prevent the situation from escalating.

Speaking to the media, the residents appealed to President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister of Roads and Highways to urgently intervene and ensure the completion of the Kasoa–Nyanyano road.

Some also warned that public frustration could intensify if work on the road does not resume.

Responding to the incident, Paitoo assured the community that he would continue engaging the relevant authorities to ensure the road project is completed before the 2028 general elections.
