The Ashanti Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into allegations against a Chief Inspector stationed in the region for allegedly owning unauthorized wooden structures at Asafo BB and renting them out to commercial sex workers.

In a press release issued on Friday, July 10, 2026, the Command said it was treating the allegations with the seriousness they deserve and assured the public that the outcome of the investigations would be duly communicated to them.

"The Command takes the allegations seriously and wishes to assure the public that further developments following the investigations will be communicated," the statement said.

The investigation follows allegations made by the Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, who claimed that some of the brothels demolished during the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly's recent operation to clamp down on open prostitution were owned by police officers.

Speaking in an interview on Accra FM, the Mayor disclosed that the implicated officers had been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command for further investigations.

"It would interest you to know that some of the brothels we demolished were owned by police officers," he said.

"Those officers involved have been handed over to the Regional Police Command for further investigation. I personally took them," he added.

The demolition exercise formed part of the Assembly's ongoing efforts to curb open prostitution and improve sanitation and public order within the Kumasi metropolis.
