The Chief Executive Officer of GhanaWeb, David Antwi, has urged prospective property buyers and investors to conduct independent checks before committing funds, stressing that due diligence remains essential despite the company's efforts to verify listings on its newly launched real estate platform.

Speaking in an interview on Thursday, July 9, 2026, following the launch of GhanaWeb's Real Estate Platform, Antwi said the initiative was created to bridge the trust gap between genuine buyers and credible property developers, landlords, and agents, while reducing fraudulent transactions in Ghana's real estate market.

"Right now, there are a lot of pain points in the real estate market. You have genuine buyers and investors on one hand and property developers, landlords, and others on the other. These two groups do not always engage in the way they are supposed to. We believe there should be a genuine marketplace where both sides can come together and do business the right way," he said.

He acknowledged that although GhanaWeb would carry out thorough background checks on properties listed on the platform, buyers also have a responsibility to protect themselves by verifying ownership documents and physically inspecting properties before making payments.

"We are going to ensure that we've done our checks and balances, but I also want to stress that the buyer or investor should do their own checks and balances. I don't want it to seem like once it's on GhanaWeb, you can just dispense with your money because GhanaWeb has made sure everything is kosher. That is not the case," he stated.

According to him, prospective buyers should request land title documents, confirm ownership with the appropriate state agencies, visit the property's location, and even make enquiries within the community before proceeding with any transaction.

"If it's land, ask for the land title and go to the appropriate agencies to confirm whether it is genuinely registered in the seller's name. Sometimes, you can even go to the area and ask people around who is selling the land. If it's a house, you can do the same. There are definitely things you can do to ensure what you're getting into is genuine," he explained.

He further stated that GhanaWeb is prepared to assist users who require additional verification services but maintained that buyers should never rely solely on a property's presence on the platform as proof of authenticity.

"As I mentioned, we can also help. If you come to us and ask us to verify a property or land for you, we can do that. But everybody must keep in mind that before you dispense with your money, make sure you've done some background checks and proper due diligence," Antwi advised.

The GhanaWeb Real Estate Platform has been designed to provide a trusted digital marketplace where verified property listings, credible real estate professionals, and prospective buyers, sellers, renters, and investors can interact with confidence.

Beyond providing verified property listings, the platform is expected to improve transparency, increase market visibility for developers and agents, simplify property searches, and create new opportunities for investment across Ghana's rapidly expanding real estate industry.
