Lawyer for Ghanaian socialite Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has asked the High Court to compel the state to disclose the circumstances surrounding his client's extradition to the United States.

The request follows Abu Trica's extradition from Ghana on July 9, 2026, despite pending court proceedings concerning the process.

Barker-Vormawor argued that the court still has jurisdiction to determine whether the state's actions were lawful.

In a lengthy social media post, he asked the court to order the state to disclose the legal authority under which Abu Trica was extradited, the flight used for his transportation and the exact time he was taken out of the country.

"I therefore pray this Honourable Court as follows: That the State be required, here and now, to state on oath whether Abu Trica has been removed from this jurisdiction, upon what authority, upon what flight, and at what hour," he requested.

Barker-Vormawor also urged the court to direct the state to produce the warrant or legal order that authorised the extradition.

"That the State produce to this Court the warrant or order upon which any such removal was carried out," he added.

He further argued that Abu Trica's extradition should not render the pending applications before the court irrelevant.

According to him, the court retains the authority to determine whether the extradition process was carried out in accordance with the law, even though his client has already been removed from Ghana.

"That this Court decline to treat the applications before it as spent or as overtaken, and hold instead that its jurisdiction to pronounce upon the lawfulness of what was done survives the removal of the man," he said.

Barker-Vormawor also asked the court to formally express its view on the state's conduct, arguing that Abu Trica was taken out of Ghana while his case remained pending before the court.

"That this Court record, in such terms as it thinks fit, its view of a course of conduct that has carried a man from his child, from his counsel, and from the reach of this Court while his cause was pending before it," he prayed.

He further asked the court to grant his legal team permission to seek additional relief, including possible contempt proceedings, depending on the state's response.

"And that we have liberty to move this Court for such further relief, including in respect of contempt, as the answers now given may warrant," he said.

GhanaWeb earlier reported that Abu Trica was extradited to the United States in the early hours of Thursday, July 9, 2026, aboard a Delta Air Lines flight.
