Ghana's economy expanded by 4.7% in April 2026, according to the latest Monthly Indicator of Economic Growth (MIEG) released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.

The MIEG index stood at 113.3 for the month, up from 108.2 recorded in April 2025.

The services sector led growth, expanding by 6.0%, largely on the back of gains in the Information and Communication sector.

Industry followed with 4.0% growth, driven mainly by mining and quarrying activities. Agriculture recorded the slowest growth at 1.7%, supported by the crops and livestock subsector.

Services also made the largest contribution to the overall growth figure, accounting for 61.7% of the 4.7% expansion.

Industry contributed 29.9%, while agriculture accounted for the remaining 4.5%.

The MIEG tracks monthly changes in the volume of economic activity and is designed to provide an early indication of the direction of the economy ahead of the quarterly Gross Domestic Product (GDP) release.

The GSS said the figures are provisional and may be revised as more data becomes available. It added that the indicator remains experimental, meaning its methodology will continue to evolve.

The next MIEG release, covering May 2026, is expected on August 12, 2026.
