Nana Kofi Safo Kantanka, counsel for the Kristo Asafo Mission, has clarified that the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka did not will his entire estate or properties to Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena.

Instead, the will recognised him as the head of the Kantanka family, not as the successor to the leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission.

According to him, when the court read the will of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka on July 6, 2026, it categorically stated that Akofena had been appointed as the head of the Kantanka family, and not as the sole owner of the entire estate, which included the Kristo Asafo Mission.

“The will did not explicitly state that he should be the leader of the church. Rather, it declared that he is the head of the Kantanka family. In the will, he emphasised that all the children must recognise him as the head and father of the family, and that he should be accorded the respect and honour he deserves. This was his categorical will and wish,” he said in an interview with Accra-based United Television on July 7, 2026.

“If he wanted to appoint Akofena as the next leader of the church, he would have stated specifically in the will, but rather, he stated that he is the head of the family,” he added.

He further disclosed that, should a new leader be selected for the church, the responsibility lies with the council of elders.

These elders, having been vested with the authority, are empowered to elect a new leader for the Kristo Asafo Mission.

“He entrusted the responsibility of selecting a new leader for the church to the council of elders, recognising that he had both a family and a church to care for. The elders, having gone through the rightful processes, were empowered to elect a new leader,” he revealed.

His comments come following a report in which an Accra High Court confirmed Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena as the successor to the Kantanka Empire after the reading of the will of the late Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.

It will be recalled that Ghanaian fashion icon and Kristo Asafo Mission member Richard Brown, popularly known as Osebo the Zaraman, speaking to journalists outside the High Court in Accra on July 6, 2026, said the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka named his son, Israel Kwadwo Safo, also known as Akofena, as his successor and sole beneficiary of his estate.

Osebo said although some family members initially opposed Akofena's leadership, they have accepted the contents of the will and will respect the late Apostle's wishes.

He added that the family is now united in supporting Akofena, stressing that opposing the decision would go against their father's desire for peace.
