Three separate building collapse incidents in different parts of Accra have left at least six persons dead and several others injured between March 29 and June 8, 2026.

This GhanaWeb article chronicles three separate building collapse incidents.

Accra New Town

The first incident was reported at Accra New Town on Sunday, March 29, 2026, after a heavy rainstorm.

A structure located within the premises of the Accra New Town Experimental Basic School collapsed.

The building was still under construction at the time of the collapse.

At least two people were confirmed dead, while others sustained injuries of varying severity.

More than a dozen individuals were rescued by emergency responders, including personnel from the Ghana Police Service, National Disaster Management Organisation and the Ghana National Fire Service.

Witnesses described scenes of panic as residents and workers attempted to assist before official rescue teams arrived.

Emergency responders, including personnel from the Ghana Police Service, National Disaster Management Organisation and the Ghana National Fire Service, have since taken over the scene, deploying floodlights and specialised equipment to sustain rescue operations after dark.

Adentan New Site

One person died following the collapse of a storey building at Adentan New Site in the Greater Accra Region on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, with several occupants rescued alive.

Preliminary findings by a Joint Technical Investigative Committee found that the developers behind the collapsed building proceeded with construction without the required statutory approvals and ignored stop-work orders issued by regulatory authorities.

Avenor

Three people also lost their lives following the collapse of a four-storey building at Avenor in North Kaneshie on Sunday, June 7, 2026.

The two survivors, who were in critical condition, were sent to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital after they were rescued by emergency responders.

Following the tragic incidents, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has ramped up efforts to identify and demolish structurally compromised buildings to prevent further disasters in the country.
