Ghanaian coach and football analyst, Coach Nimley, has urged Black Stars defender Baba Rahman to shut out social media criticism and remain focused on Ghana's FIFA World Cup campaign.
Speaking on Citi sports , Nimley acknowledged that Baba Rahman played a role in the late goal Ghana conceded against Wales but insisted that the defender should not shoulder all the blame for the setback.
According to him, the intense criticism directed at Baba Rahman has become widespread, recounting how even his young daughter heard discussions about the player's performance at school.
"My daughter came home and asked me who Baba Rahman was because everyone at school was talking about him and saying he didn't do well. It shows how far the criticism has gone," he said.
Nimley expressed concern about the impact such scrutiny could have on the player and his family, stressing that footballers also have loved ones who are affected by public criticism.
"Baba has a family and children. Imagine what they go through when they hear these things. It can be extremely damaging," he added.
While admitting that Baba Rahman could have handled the situation better by preventing the winger from turning and delivering the cross, Nimley pointed out that another defensive lapse contributed significantly to the goal.
He argued that defender Abdul Mumin abandoned his marker inside the penalty area, allowing Wales forward Luis Cumas the space needed to score.
"When you watch the replay, Mumin was with the player who eventually headed the ball. He left his marker and focused on the ball instead of the danger. Defenders can get beaten, but once that happens, other defenders must react properly," Nimley explained.
The coach noted that Ghana had enough players in the box to deal with the situation but failed to maintain proper marking, which ultimately proved costly.
"My advice to Baba Rahman is to close his mind to the noise. Whenever he gets the chance to play, he should remember that he is there to serve his country. Criticism will always come, but he must stay focused and perform when called upon," he stated.
