The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has stated that attempts to remove him from office are based on rumours and unsubstantiated allegations.

Speaking during a panel discussion on Channel One TV on June 6, 2026, the Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament expressed surprise when the spokesperson for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, suggested that he was behind the alleged hacking of Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin's X account.

Aboagye had alleged that even while in opposition, Sam George was involved in the hacking of individuals' social media accounts.

He further claimed he was controlling social media operations during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration and engaging in the hacking of people's accounts.

Responding to the allegations, Sam George expressed shocked by the claims and suggested that they formed part of a broader campaign against him.

"You see the reason why people want Sam George out of the Ministry of Communication by hook or by crook," he stated.

The controversy began after a post attributed to Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin circulated widely on social media on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. The post appeared to criticise the anti-LGBTQ+ legislation passed by Parliament on May 29.

The post was later deleted and replaced with a disclaimer from the Minority Leader, who claimed that his X account had been hacked.

Following the incident, Sam George challenged Afenyo-Markin to formally lodge a complaint with the Cyber Security Authority for an investigation into the alleged breach.
