The contractor tasked with building the newly initiated Mankranso market has been urged to adhere strictly to project specifications, maintain the highest standards of quality, and deliver the facility within the stipulated timeframe without excuses.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ahafo Ano South West, Abubakar Sedik, gave this charge during the official sod-cutting ceremony to mark the commencement of a state-of-the-art 24-Hour Economy Model Market in Mankranso.
Addressing the gathering at the project site, the DCE emphasised that the Assembly would closely monitor the construction process to ensure taxpayer funds are utilised effectively. He also appealed to community members to cooperate fully with the construction team and take complete ownership of the facility once completed.
The landmark project is designed to transition local trade into a 24-hour cycle, providing a secure, convenient, and highly organised environment for both traders and consumers.
"Unlike traditional open-air markets, the Mankranso 24-Hour Model Market is designed as a multi-purpose complex. The facility will feature modern local retail shops, a dedicated police post, and a fire service booth to ensure round-the-clock security and safety for traders and their wares," Hon Abubakar Sedik revealed.
Recognising the social needs of the market community, the complex will also house a daycare centre for working mothers, a pharmacy, and a clinic to provide immediate, accessible healthcare. Additionally, to drive financial inclusion, the facility will feature a specialised women’s bank, allowing traders to secure their capital, access credit, and easily operate bank accounts.
"This market, when completed, is expected to serve as a major commercial hub for Mankranso and its adjoining areas. It will create direct and indirect employment, increase household incomes, and stimulate robust economic activities throughout the entire district," the DCE said.
Hon Sedik noted that the execution of the project is a practical demonstration of the government's commitment to decentralisation and local economic development. He stated that vibrant local economies are the foundation of national growth, making strategic investments in modern market infrastructure critical to improving the welfare of citizens.
On behalf of the Assembly and the chiefs and people of the Ahafo Ano South West District, the DCE expressed profound gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, the Ashanti Regional Minister, and the local traditional leader, Nana Hene, who generously provided the vast tract of land for the project.

Representing Otumfuo's Hiahene, Nana Professor Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II, the Chief of Kunsu, Nana Dr Agyemang Badu Duah I, announced that the Hiahene has donated 19 acres of land—equivalent to 76 plots—to the Assembly to facilitate the project.
He noted that the Hiahene is prepared to provide additional land should the need arise. While commending the initiative, the Chief urged residents to support its progress and encouraged those employed for the construction to work with diligence and goodwill.
