Haruna Iddrisu is the Minister of Education

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, says government is expanding Ghana’s digital learning agenda to strengthen access and modernise education across all levels.

Speaking at a National Confab and Exhibition on Digital Education on June 4, 2026, he explained that every senior high school student currently has access to a tablet preloaded with the national curriculum, while similar provisions have also been made for teachers.

According to him, the government is now preparing to extend the initiative from kindergarten through to junior high school as part of a broader education reform drive.

"We are incorporating AI, coding, Artificial Intelligence and electronics into basic foundational learning in order that we prepare them for a world of e-learning tomorrow.

"It is our belief in E-Learning Africa will rise by defining knowledge on its own terms", he stated.

Haruna Iddrisu noted that a curriculum review committee is expected to conclude its work with plans to integrate coding, artificial intelligence, electronics, and other digital skills into basic education.

Haruna Iddrisu said the goal is to prepare learners for a future driven by e-learning and emerging technologies, stressing that Africa must shape its own knowledge systems.

He further emphasized that the future of learning must be rooted in local contexts while still embracing global innovation, adding that sectors such as fintech, agriculture, health, and AI should be leveraged to serve citizens.

"We hope to champion sovereignty in learning rooted in our languages, cultures and realities so that education reflects who we are. From fintech to farming, health to AI, our creativity must serve our people first. We must build a united learning system, a continental network of shared knowledge, harmonised standards and collective strength', he added.
