Cynthia Morrison reacts to alleged incest, HIV case involving police officer

Cynthia Mamle Morrison is a former minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection

Former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, has called for immediate protection and relocation of a minor at the centre of an alleged defilement case involving a police officer believed to be her biological father.

Morrison made the call while reacting to allegations that the officer allegedly sexually abused his daughter after she went to stay with him in Garu, in the Upper East Region, stressing that the welfare and safety of the child must be prioritised.

“We need to relocate the girl to the safest place. The interest of the child, her welfare and education are important,” she said.

According to a report by adomonline.com on June 5, 2026, she urged the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to intervene swiftly.

She questioned why authorities had not publicly addressed the issue despite the seriousness of the allegations and the suspect’s reported status as a police officer.

“I don’t know if the IGP has heard it, but I don’t know why they will sit aloof and not say anything, especially when the man is a police officer,” Morrison stated.

She further indicated her readiness to personally follow up with authorities to ensure the case receives the needed attention.

“As a woman, I will try and contact them and see the way forward,” she added.

Morrison stressed that the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) should be actively involved in handling the matter, noting that the alleged victim is a minor and requires institutional protection.

“DOVVSU is under the police and the Ministry of Gender, and I believe once she is a minor, they will know what is going on,” she said.

She also highlighted the need for counselling and psychological support for both the child and her mother.

“The woman also needs counselling, just as the girl,” Morrison noted.

The calls follow claims made by the child’s mother during an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, where she alleged that the abuse started during the girl’s first visit to stay with her father after years of separation.

The mother further alleged that a medical examination conducted at an undisclosed hospital later confirmed that the child had contracted HIV.

The allegations have yet to be officially confirmed by the police, and no public response has been issued regarding the matter.
