Astroturf Ghana Limited has held discussions with the National Sports Authority (NSA) on strategies to improve sports infrastructure and enhance the quality of football pitches across Ghana.

The meeting, which took place at the NSA headquarters in Accra on June 3, 2026, focused on preparations for upcoming FIFA-related competitions and the broader need to provide modern, durable and professionally constructed football facilities at the national, regional and community levels.

During the engagement, Prince Boateng Gyebi, the Managing Director of Astroturf Ghana Limited, expressed concern about the growing number of poorly constructed artificial pitches across the country. According to him, substandard sports facilities generate negative publicity and pose a challenge to talent development and player performance.

He emphasised the importance of adhering to industry standards in constructing football pitches, noting that high-quality playing surfaces are crucial for nurturing talent and creating a conducive environment for athletes to excel.

The discussions also examined the role of sports infrastructure in supporting grassroots football development, increasing community participation in sports and strengthening Ghana's overall sporting ecosystem. Both parties agreed that access to quality facilities remains a key component in the long-term growth of football and other sporting disciplines.

Speaking during the meeting, the Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, underscored the importance of collaboration between public institutions and private sector stakeholders in delivering sustainable sports infrastructure that meets international standards.

Gyebi reaffirmed Astroturf Ghana Limited's commitment to supporting the country's sports development agenda through innovative turf solutions, technical expertise and strategic partnerships.

He noted that “every young footballer deserves access to a safe and professionally developed playing environment and emphasised the need for continued collaboration with the National Sports Authority to expand access to quality football facilities nationwide.”

The meeting highlighted several areas for cooperation, including efforts to improve football pitch quality across regions and districts, strengthen grassroots and youth football development, promote sustainable sports facility management practices and encourage public-private partnerships in sports infrastructure delivery.

Participants also discussed the importance of positioning Ghana as a destination capable of hosting major regional and international sporting events.

Also present at the meeting was the Chief Operating Officer of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Gyamfi Kusi Awere.
