English winger, Bukayo Saka has revisited one of the earliest and most painful World Cup moments etched in his memory, recalling the drama of Ghana’s heartbreaking exit at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
The England international said the match left a lasting impression on him as a young fan watching the game unfold with family and friends, describing the emotional swings of that night as unforgettable.
“My first FIFA World Cup memory was in 2010 in South Africa. The Uruguay vs Ghana game was crazy. I was watching it,” Saka said in a FIFA interview.
He went on to describe where he was during the tense quarter-final and how vividly he remembers the key moments.

“I remember being in a room with my brother and obviously we saw the handball and the penalty, and all the emotions. We had some Ghanaian friends, so that went down not so good,” he added.
The match remains one of the most dramatic in World Cup history. Ghana were denied a historic place in the semi-finals after Luis Suárez’s infamous goal-line handball in extra time led to a red card and a penalty for the Black Stars.
However, Asamoah Gyan struck the resulting spot-kick against the crossbar, before Ghana eventually lost in the penalty shootout.
