A Ghanaian man repatriated from South Africa has reportedly returned home after spending 16 years abroad, following renewed xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals.

According to a witness, the man had sold family land to finance his trip to South Africa years ago but came back with nothing after being affected by the unrest.

In a video shared on X on June 3, 2026, the visibly heartbroken man shared his story after being evacuated from South Africa.

“He sold family land to fund his trip to South Africa and stayed there for 16 years. He has now returned,” the man said after identifying one of the Ghanaian nationals repatriated on a government-chartered flight.

The witness further claimed the returnee was unable to bring back anything due to the renewed xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
