The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has secured 120 job opportunities for Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa as part of efforts to support their reintegration into society following their return home amid ongoing xenophobic tensions in the country.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry on Monday, June 1, 2026, the employment opportunities have been provided by Ghanaian business owners who responded to calls to support citizens affected by the unrest.

The employment initiative comes as the government intensifies efforts to assist citizens affected by the recent wave of xenophobic tensions in South Africa. So far, about 300 Ghanaians who expressed a desire to return home have been evacuated.

The initiative is aimed at helping returnees rebuild their lives and regain economic stability after being forced to leave South Africa due to renewed anti-foreigner sentiment and attacks.

However, the Minister urged more Ghanaian chief executive officers and entrepreneurs to join the effort by offering employment opportunities to returning citizens.

“We invite Ghanaian CEOs and entrepreneurs desirous of employing Ghanaians returning from South Africa to contact the Delivery Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” the statement said.

The Ministry further disclosed that the initiative is being coordinated by its Delivery Unit, headed by Ambassador Alexander Grant Ntrakwa, who is working with private-sector partners to identify employment opportunities for the evacuees.

“So far, we have secured 120 job opportunities from patriotic Ghanaian business owners. Be part of this noble project,” the Ministry added.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to protecting the welfare of Ghanaians both at home and abroad, assuring citizens that measures are being put in place to ensure their safety and successful reintegration.

“We value and cherish all our citizens,” the statement noted.

Government officials say the reintegration programme will continue as more evacuees arrive in Ghana, with authorities seeking additional support from the private sector to expand employment opportunities and ease the transition of returning citizens into the local economy.
