Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has announced plans to construct a 500-bed specialist children’s hospital at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, aimed at boosting paediatric healthcare delivery in Ghana.
The announcement was made during a courtesy call by the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, at the Ga Mantse Palace, where discussions focused on strengthening healthcare delivery and reinforcing community protocols against the Ebola virus.
In a viral video shared on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on June 2, 2026, the Ga Mantse said the proposal is already at an advanced stage after securing five acres of land from Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for the project.
“There was a proposal that a new hospital has to be built, a new hospital for children. We contacted Korle Bu Teaching Hospital because they have vast land on the right side of the hospital when you enter. So, they gave us five acres of that land to see if we could design something for a 500-bed children’s hospital,” he said.
King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II disclosed that he discussed the initiative with President John Dramani Mahama during a hospital visit following his accident, noting that the president welcomed the proposal because it aligns with a key campaign promise.

“When His Excellency the President visited me in the hospital during my accident, I talked to him. He said it was even in his manifesto to put up a 500-bed specialist children’s hospital,” the Ga Mantse indicated.
He added that investors had already been secured for the initiative and that discussions had been held with the board of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to fast-track implementation.
“We have put in a lot of work. We have met with the board of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and we are eager to put this project into action,” he stated, adding that plans also include a 24-hour pharmacy for the hospital.
Responding to the proposal, Akandoh welcomed the initiative, describing it as a project close to the president’s agenda and stressing the importance of aligning private and corporate interventions with government priorities to ensure quicker results.
The health minister said government would seek further clarity on the model of implementation, including whether the facility would be handed over to the state, managed under a public-private partnership arrangement, or involve another form of collaboration.
“I will quickly draw His Excellency the President’s attention to this particular project and I know very well that he will be excited about it,” Akandoh said.
