More details are emerging on the detention of Anabella Gyasi, a 38-year-old pregnant woman, and her 4-year-old disabled son at a Washington DC airport and their subsequent deportation.
Earlier reports indicated that Gyasi travelled to the US on a valid visa to seek medical attention for her disabled son but ended up being detained for more than a week.
New details indicate that the 38-year-old pregnant woman had ulterior motives for travelling to the US.
The details, which were published by CNN, showed that Gyasi was in the US to seek asylum.
Official court transcripts cited in the CNN report indicated that the woman told US immigration officials that staying in Ghana was not safe for her and her child.

According to the document, she told the officials that the life of her disabled child was under threat from her own family.
She reportedly said she had been working on claiming asylum for the past two years after her own mother told her to kill her son because he was disabled.
“Gyasi, who is a teacher, told authorities her mother ‘is a traditional priest and when she saw my child as a baby and his disability, she said I should kill him,’ according to a government transcript of her statement to an immigration officer,” part of the report read.
She reportedly confessed after officers examined her phone and found a history of searches on the topic.
They also found that she had considered seeking asylum in the United States, Canada and Australia.
