It was a scene of jubilation as some Ghanaians who had been evacuated from South Africa were seen singing praises to President John Dramani Mahama while waiting to be processed upon their return to Ghana.

In a video shared on Facebook and sighted by GhanaWeb on May 30, 2026, the returnees were gathered under tents at the forecourt of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as they were attended to by officials.

The video showed some of them dancing and singing patriotic songs. Others were heard chanting “Mahama Oseey,” while some were also heard chanting “SM 4 Lyfe.”

Another scene showed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Okudzeto Ablakwa, addressing the crowd, with returnees excitedly hugging him.

The main purpose of the gathering was to process and reintegrate the returnees into the country.

This comes after 300 Ghanaians were evacuated from South Africa following violent xenophobic protests and attacks on foreigners.
