The final funeral rites of the late Andrew Amankwaa Karikari, father-in-law of the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, attracted a host of prominent personalities from Ghana's political, business, religious and social circles.

The funeral, held on May 30, 2026, at Ohwim in the Ashanti Region, brought together several dignitaries who joined Sammy Gyamfi, his wife, Irene Amankwaa Karikari, and other family members to pay their last respects to the deceased.

Among the high-profile personalities who attended the burial service was Ghana's First Lady, Lordina Mahama.

Also in attendance was retired Commissioner of Police (COP) Kofi Boakye, a respected figure in Ghana's security landscape.

The business community was represented by the Chief Executive Officer of Despite Group of Companies, Dr Osei Kwame Despite, popularly known as Despite, who attended alongside members of the East Legon Executive Fitness Club.

Several government officials and political figures were also present to support the bereaved family. They included the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Osman Ayariga; Board Chairman of GCB Bank, Professor Joshua Alabi; Municipal Chief Executive for Asokwa, Amoh Kamel; and Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammy Awuku.

Members of the clergy were not left out, as Prophet Kumchacha, Prophet Kennedy Afreh Poku and gospel musician Broda Sammy joined mourners to honour the memory of the deceased.

Popular social commentator Appiah Stadium was also among the personalities spotted at the funeral grounds.

The funeral served as a moment of solidarity as family, friends, colleagues and well-wishers gathered to celebrate the life of Andrew Amankwaa Karikari and support his loved ones during their time of grief.

Andrew Amankwaa Karikari passed away after sustaining injuries during an alleged armed robbery attack at his residence in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The incident reportedly occurred on February 13, 2026, when he was shot during a violent robbery. Despite receiving intensive medical treatment, he succumbed to his injuries on February 18, 2026.

The deceased was the father of Irene Amankwaa Karikari, wife of Sammy Gyamfi. Sammy Gyamfi and Irene tied the knot in a semi-private traditional and white wedding ceremony in Accra on December 21, 2022.
