The Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Anthony Sarpong, has announced that the Authority’s newly introduced Publican AI generated GH¢1 billion in April 2026.

He explained that since the rollout of the technology, the Authority has recorded major gains in customs revenue, which have positively impacted businesses.

Speaking at the 10th Ghana CEO Summit on Thursday, May 28, 2026, Sarpong noted that the priority of Publican AI is to speed up processes and ensure fair import assessments to support business growth.

“The technology helped generate an additional GH¢1 billion in customs revenue in April [2026] alone. We want to position GRA as the first public institution to use AI across the board, affecting many businesses. The purpose is to reduce human discretion, make faster assessments, and create a fairer basis for all import assessments,” he stated.

The GRA boss added that, given the promising nature of the technology and preliminary figures, he is optimistic that revenue for May 2026 will surpass the April performance.

“We are on course in the month of May, and the results as of yesterday show that we are going beyond GH¢1 billion for the month of May,” he disclosed.

The implementation of the AI-powered system is expected to plug revenue leakages that have long affected tax administration.
