The Greater Accra Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Dennis Nartey Adjannor, has called for the dismissal of the Ablekuma West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and some planning officers following recent flooding incidents in the region.

In a video shared on Facebook and sighted by GhanaWeb on May 25, 2026, Dennis Nartey Adjannor stated that the Municipal Chief Executive, municipal works engineer, and town planning officers had failed woefully in carrying out their duties.

According to him, the officials allegedly looked on while individuals reconstructed buildings that had earlier been demolished during a recent exercise, a development he believes has contributed to the persistent flooding situation.

Where is the first National Coordinator of NADMO, Kofi Portuphy?

“I am putting the MCE of Ablekuma West, the municipal works engineer, and the planning officers on the spot. I am going to report them to the Regional Minister. Some of these people must be sanctioned because buildings are not constructed in a day.

“When we came here the other day, the last house we demolished was this one, and they have sat down and allowed them to reconstruct it again. These are some of the causes of the flooding problem,” he said.

He further disclosed that all structures identified as problematic would be marked for demolition by NADMO officials.

Dennis Nartey Adjannor further warned that all structures identified as illegally erected in flood-prone areas would be marked and demolished by NADMO officials.

According to him, the continuous reconstruction of demolished structures undermines efforts to address flooding in the region, stressing that officials who fail to enforce regulations should be sanctioned or dismissed.

“And all these buildings, I have instructed my NADMO directors to mark all these properties. We will pull them down. We want to move the country forward, but some individuals continue to operate in the dark and engage in wrongdoing, and at the end of the day, they start blaming the president.

“Because we cannot keep repeating the same exercise over and over again. If the MCEs, engineers, and planning officers sit in their offices and fail to go out and work, then they should all be sacked,” he added.
