The Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening international military cooperation and strategic leadership development following a high-level visit by participants of the Royal College of Defence Studies to the Ministry of Defence in Accra.

The delegation, led by Lieutenant General Sir George Norton, paid a courtesy call on the Ministry as part of ongoing engagements aimed at deepening defence diplomacy and enhancing collaboration between Ghana and the United Kingdom in the areas of security, leadership and global peacekeeping.

Welcoming the delegation to the Ministry’s square, Hon. Genfi expressed appreciation for the role the prestigious UK-based institution continues to play in shaping strategic military leadership across the world.

“Honoured to welcome participants from the Royal College of Defence Studies, United Kingdom led by Lt. Gen. (Rtd) George Norton, to the Square, Ministry of Defence Ghana,” the Deputy Minister stated.

“We value the College’s immense role in shaping strategic military leadership worldwide. Proudly, the Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces and many other distinguished officers from Ghana are alumni, strengthening our nation’s contribution to global peace and security,” he added.

The Royal College of Defence Studies, established in 1927 and currently under the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, is regarded as one of the world’s foremost institutions for senior military and strategic studies. The college trains selected senior military officers, diplomats and government officials from allied countries for top-level leadership roles in defence and international security.

The visit also highlights the longstanding military and diplomatic ties between Ghana and the United Kingdom, particularly in professional military education and strategic security cooperation.
Ghana has over the years produced several high-ranking military officers who have undertaken studies at the institution, including the current Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, whose official military profile lists the Royal College of Defence Studies among his advanced professional training credentials.

The Ghana Armed Forces has long maintained a reputation for professionalism and active participation in international peacekeeping missions under the United Nations and regional bodies, making strategic partnerships with institutions such as the Royal College of Defence Studies particularly significant.
