A resurfaced video from the 1960s has offered Ghanaians a rare glimpse into what public transport stations, popularly known as trotro stations, looked like in the early post-colonial era.

The footage, shared on social media and sighted by GhanaWeb on May 23, 2026, captured scenes from a bustling transport station in Accra, revealing both striking differences and surprising similarities between transport life decades ago and today.

In the video, the buses, popularly referred to at the time as “bone shakers,” appeared far different from the modern minibuses used today.

Passengers were seen boarding the vehicles through the rear or even climbing through windows, unlike the sliding-door system commonly associated with present-day trotros.

Despite the changes in vehicle design and urban development over the decades, some aspects of transport station culture appeared unchanged.

Hawkers were seen actively moving around the station selling water, snacks, and other items to commuters, much like the vibrant roadside trade still associated with Ghana’s transport terminals today.

The archival footage has shows how public transportation and daily life in Accra have evolved over the past six decades while maintaining elements of continuity.
