Flooding has once again hit the Kaneshie First Light area in Accra, leaving several vehicles stranded and commuters frustrated after heavy rains battered parts of the capital.
The recurring flooding issue at Kaneshie has sparked renewed concerns over poor drainage systems, indiscriminate dumping of waste, and weak enforcement of sanitation regulations.
Heavy rains on Friday May 22, 2026 caused flooding in parts of Accra, with Kaneshie among the worst-hit areas as floodwaters submerged roads and disrupted movement.
In viral videos shared on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on May 23, 2026, several vehicles were seen trapped in floodwaters while pedestrians struggled to move through submerged streets after hours of rainfall across parts of Accra.

Areas around the Kpone Barrier, Santa Maria, among others, also experienced significant flooding, forcing some commuters and traders to seek shelter as drainage systems overflowed.
Residents in other parts of Accra also reported flooding, with concerns once again being raised over the city’s perennial drainage challenges during heavy rains.
The floods also triggered heavy traffic congestion on major roads as motorists battled poor visibility and waterlogged intersections.
As of Friday, May 22, 2026, there were no immediate reports of casualties, although authorities are expected to assess the extent of damage caused by the flooding.
