Pentecostalism: How ‘barren’ women conceived after crossing Apostle Anim's ‘fertility line’

Every May 20 remains a sacred day for members of the Christ Apostolic Church community, as they commemorate the historic Asamankese revival linked to the prayers of Apostle Peter Newman Anim.

As Christians within the Pentecostal community mark the occasion and celebrate the legacy of Apostle Anim, regarded as one of the pioneers of the Christ Apostolic Church and the Church of Pentecost, an old video of Charles Agyinasare has resurfaced online.

In the video, sighted by GhanaWeb on May 22, 2026, the founder and leader of Perez Chapel International, Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, has recounted several miracles performed by Peter Newman Anim during his lifetime.

According to Archbishop Agyinasare, one of the most remarkable incidents occurred in 1923 at Asamankese, where Apostle Anim and his followers had gathered for prayer.

He explained that while the Apostle and a small group of individuals were in prayer, the church building where they found themselves was caught up in holy flames.

Archbishop Agyinasare further detailed that all attempts to quench the holy flames by individuals present yielded no result, adding that the fire didn't burn those in the building.

The echoes of Pentecost: How the Asamankese fire became a national voice

“When Pentecostalism started in Ghana through Apostle Anim and his followers in Asamankese, I went to preach at the exact place where it all began. The building in which they were praying had what appeared to be a tongue of fire over it.

“It was a huge fire, and everybody in Asamankese saw the building covered with fire. People rushed there thinking the place was burning, but when they arrived, the building was intact, and there were people inside praying,” he narrated.

Archbishop Agyinasare further recounted how he personally experienced what he described as a powerful spiritual encounter when he visited the same building in 1984 before beginning his crusade ministry.

“And I went to hold a meeting in that building in 1984, a few months before I started my crusades. I stood in that building with a lot of faith, and I tell you, it felt as though I had been plugged into electricity,” he stated.

He explained that after the encounter, he prayed for a woman suffering from sores on her head, and she was instantly healed.

“There was a woman who had sores on her head, and I laid my hands on her jaw, and suddenly the sores disappeared instantly,” he added.

The preacher also shared another striking account involving a “fertility line” allegedly drawn by Apostle Anim near a mission house on the church premises.

According to him, church members believed women struggling to conceive became pregnant after crossing the line in faith.

“They had this mission house that Apostle Anim built and near the mission house, there was a pipe stand with a line drawn there. They said Apostle Anim drew the line and if you were looking for a child and crossed that line, you would conceive,” he said.

Archbishop Agyinasare further claimed that parts of the old church building were also believed to possess healing powers.

“The old church building… when people were sick, they would break portions of the building, put them in water, drink it, and they would be healed,” he stated.
