Ghanaian football icon Asamoah Gyan has stated that he felt honoured and proud after being selected to help unveil the new Black Stars jersey ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking after his official appointment as brand ambassador for Ghana’s national teams and colt football, the former Black Stars captain described the moment as special recognition for his contribution to Ghana football over the years.

“When I was called to unveil the national team jersey, I felt very happy to represent the country and to unveil the national team jersey. I feel proud of myself,” Gyan stated.

The former striker, who remains Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, also highlighted his strong connection to the FIFA World Cup, where he made history as Africa’s top scorer at the tournament.

“When it comes to World Cup, you cannot mention World Cup without mentioning Asamoah Gyan,” he said.

He thanked Ghanaians for their continuous support throughout his career and promised to continue serving the nation through football.

“I would like to thank Ghanaians for their support throughout these years. Hopefully, in the future, we have a lot of things to do,” he said.

The ex-Black Stars captain also reaffirmed his commitment to helping develop football in Ghana, especially at the grassroots level.

“As an ambassador to serve the national teams and colt football, as I said, I’m here to serve. I will do everything possible to take football to the next level,” he added.

The appointment is expected to see the former Black stars player play an active role in promoting Ghana football locally and internationally.
