Vote for me to partner Bawumia as his 'twin' – Wontumi to NPP Delegates

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has appealed to party delegates to elect him as the next National Chairman to work closely with the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 general elections.

In a social media post sighted and monitored by GhanaWeb on May 21, 2026, Chairman Wontumi argued that his election as National Chairman would further reinforce the NPP’s image as a party that embraces diversity and grassroots participation.

According to him, the election of Dr Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer had already broken the perception that only Akans get the opportunity lead the NPP.
“NPP by electing Dr Bawumia as flagbearer has disregarded the notion that only Akans get to lead the party,” he stated.

Wontumi's alleged GH¢14.3m loan fraud case adjourned to June 18

Chairman Wontumi further argued that his rise from the grassroots level of the party would help dispel claims that only elites are given top leadership positions within the NPP.

“So, if you vote for me as National Chairman as a typical member from the grassroots, it will disregard the perception that NPP only draws from the elites to be handlers of the party. I am here to serve you. Vote for me to give value to the grassroot,” he said.

He therefore urged delegates and supporters to back his ambition to partner Dr Bawumia in leading the NPP back to power in the 2028 elections.

“Vote for me to partner Bawumia to help Bawumia work to wrestle power from our opponents in 2028,” he appealed.

Chairman Wontumi added that his close working relationship with the former Vice President would make them appear inseparable within the party hierarchy.

“If you vote for me, then I and Dr Bawumia will be likened to twins,” he remarked.
