The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dominic Ayine, has dismissed suggestions that the government’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) anti-corruption initiative is failing, insisting that the programme remains active and effective despite criticism from the opposition.

Speaking on ongoing corruption prosecutions on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Aqua Safari on the sidelines of the Public Accounts Committee sitting, Dr Ayine said the legal processes currently underway in court are instead increasing pressure on the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“When statements like that are being made that we are doing this because ORAL is failing, ORAL is not failing,” he stated.

He argued that his office has made significant progress in prosecuting corruption-related cases under the Fourth Republic, describing the current pace of prosecutions as unprecedented.

I will treat 'ungovernable Ghana comment' with contempt - Attorney General

“Go back and check the records, I am the first Attorney-General in the history of the Fourth Republic to have brought five corruption cases in one year,” he said.

Dr Ayine further maintained that the intensity of the prosecutions has unsettled political opponents who fear the consequences of ongoing legal proceedings.

“What is happening in court now is rather putting pressure on them because they know that I have been so diligent in my investigations. I have been so diligent in the prosecutions that they are afraid that their people will go to jail for the acts of corruption that they engaged in,” he stated.

He also rejected claims that the government is shifting focus away from ORAL, insisting the initiative remains firmly on course.

“So the accusation that we are shifting focus away from ORAL is not something that I will pay heed to because ORAL is on track and ORAL is going to succeed,” he added.
