Former Deputy Minister of Energy, Collins Adomako-Mensah, and Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, engaged in a heated debate on Metro TV over a previous comment made by Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga concerning Supreme Court judges.
During the Good Morning Ghana show aired on May 20, 2026, and sighted by GhanaWeb on X, Collins Adomako-Mensah raised concerns about the remarks Mahama Ayariga made on JoyNews during the tenure of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
In the earlier interview, Mahama Ayariga stated: “That is why you should have knowledgeable people in the Supreme Court... If they were knowledgeable, they would have known that the US Supreme Court in the case of Baker v Carr in 1962...”
Reacting to the comment, Collins Adomako-Mensah argued that the Majority Leader had insulted the Supreme Court judges and should be criticised for it.
“The current Majority Leader of Parliament called the Supreme Court judges unintelligent. If someone says the Supreme Court judges do not know what they are doing, it means they are unintelligent,” he said.

As he continued his submission, Kwesi Pratt Jnr interrupted and argued that Mahama Ayariga’s statement was not an insult to the judges.
According to the seasoned journalist, Ayariga was referring to a legal principle established by the US Supreme Court and merely suggested that the Ghanaian judges may not have been familiar with that particular ruling.

Below are excerpts from the exchange:
Adomako-Mensah: “The current Majority Leader of Parliament called the Supreme Court judges unintelligent. If someone says the Supreme Court judges do not know what they are doing, it means they are unintelligent.”
Kwesi Pratt Jnr: “He is saying that the case was decided by the US Supreme Court and that if the judges were knowledgeable and knew about that case, they would not have taken this decision.”
Adomako-Mensah: “I have listened to it. He says, ‘if they were knowledgeable’... No problem.”
Kwesi Pratt Jnr: “You are not being fair to your colleague parliamentarians.”
Adomako-Mensah: “Members of this current government called the Supreme Court judges ‘Unanimous FC’ as if they do not have minds of their own. That is what we were told.”
Kwesi Pratt Jnr: “What was said on the tape, and what all of us heard, is that if the judges of the Supreme Court were knowledgeable in reference to a particular case determined by the US Supreme Court, then they would not have arrived at the decision they have taken now. That is not an insult.”
