The Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, says prosecutors have officially closed their case in the trial involving former officials of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) over the Accra Sky Train project.
Dr Srem-Sai shared the update on his X page on May 20, 2026.
“This morning, our team of hard-working prosecutors closed the prosecution’s case in The Republic v Solomon Asamoah & Another (also known as the ‘Sky Train’ case). The case involves the former CEO and the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF). They are standing trial for paying US$2 million to a foreign company without board approval and other requisite authorisations,” he wrote.
According to the Deputy Attorney General, the prosecution told the court that the funds involved in the transaction “cannot be traced.”
Dr Srem-Sai further disclosed that the court has given the defence up to June 8, 2026, to file their submissions.
“The court gave them up to June 8 to file their submissions. If the submission makes sense to the judge, the accused persons will be acquitted and discharged. If it does not, the judge will require them to explain why they should not be convicted,” he noted.
The Attorney General’s office has filed four criminal charges against Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), in connection with the alleged misapplication of US$2 million.
Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi and former GIIF CEO Solomon Asamoah are accused of misapplying funds meant for the Sky Train project.
