A customer has successfully obtained a refund from a China Mall outlet after claiming he was sold a rubber mattress instead of the expected materials.

The viral video shared on May 20, 2026, has sparked renewed public concern about the alleged use of unapproved materials in mattress manufacturing.

The development comes amid a recent crackdown by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) on Jin Yuan Jia Mattress Manufacturing, which has heightened concerns about the use of unauthorised materials in the production of mattresses.

In the video, the customer’s friend recounts how the buyer felt “cheated” after purchasing the mattress from China Mall.

According to him, his friend contacted him after realising that the mattress he had bought appeared to be made of rubber rather than the product he expected, and asked for assistance in returning it for a refund.

“We’re currently at their office, and he is discussing the issue with the managers. They were being difficult and reluctant to reach an agreement, so he showed them his receipt as proof of purchase for the mattress he believes is fake,” he says.

The footage shows the customer confronting managers and presenting the receipt as evidence to support his claim.

His friend insists that they will not leave the premises without a satisfactory resolution.

After a series of discussions with China Mall managers, who initially resisted the request, the store eventually accepted the return and processed a full refund.

The video captures the two men leaving the establishment in high spirits after the refund is completed.

“My friend is now happy that I was able to help him get his money back. If anyone else finds themselves in a similar situation, feel free to reach out to me, and I will help you recover your money,” he says.

Concerns over so-called “rubber mattresses” have been trending in recent days, with several consumers claiming to have had similar experiences, including Ghanaian actor Kwadwo Nkansah Lil Win.

The public has been advised to exercise caution when purchasing mattresses and other household products.
