The Ghana Shippers’ Authority has stated that it remains committed to reducing the cost of doing business at Ghana’s ports despite opposition from some shipping lines and agents.
In a statement dated May 20, 2026, the Authority said it reviewed the Container Administrative Charge after complaints from importers, exporters, and freight forwarders over high fees charged for cargo release.
The GSA announced a cap of GH₵550 per container unit, but the implementation was later postponed to July 1, 2026, with an interim cap of GH₵720 approved by Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe.
According to the Authority, some shipping lines and agents have opposed the move and have taken legal action to stop the directive.
“We remain unfazed, resilient, and committed to performing our role as a regulator,” the statement said.
