Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced a special support package for Ghanaians being evacuated from South Africa following ongoing xenophobic attacks in the country.
In a post shared on X on May 20, 2026, the foreign affairs minister disclosed that the government had put together several relief measures to support the returnees upon their arrival in Ghana.
According to him, the package is aimed at helping affected Ghanaians reintegrate smoothly into society after being displaced by the attacks.
“Evacuation from South Africa; the Government of Ghana announces that all Ghanaians being evacuated from South Africa due to ongoing xenophobic attacks shall be entitled to the following,” the caption of the post read.
The minister listed the benefits to include a welcome home financial package, transportation support to various destinations across the country, and a reintegration allowance.
The package also includes free psychosocial support services for victims as well as inclusion in a special government database for job and startup opportunities.
The benefits announced are:

• Entry into a special database for jobs and startup opportunities
Ablakwa assured affected citizens that their welfare remains a top priority for the government.

“We value and cherish all our citizens,” part of the statement added.
The evacuation exercise comes amid renewed concerns over xenophobic violence in South Africa, which has periodically targeted foreign nationals, including other African migrants living and working in the country.
