Graduates of the School of Hygiene have staged a protest at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs over delays in their postings, saying they have remained at home for six years after completing their training.

The graduates massed up at the Ministry on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, demanding immediate postings and insisting they had submitted all required documents, including transcripts, certificates and professional licences, to facilitate the process.

According to a report by 3news.com on May 19, 2026, the demonstration marks the fourth protest by the graduates at the Ministry, following several petitions and letters to the Minister which they say have gone unanswered.

The graduates said they had expected a response after submitting a petition to the Minister last year but have since received no feedback.

“The last time we were here, the Minister Honourable Ahmed Ibrahim spoke to us and after receiving our petition what he said was that he was going to present our petition to Cabinet on December 23 so that a day after December 23, he will call us. Six months down the lane, the story remains the same. We have not heard from the Minister,” a leader of the group said.

The group also complained that despite submitting several letters to the Ministry, they have not received any official response.

“Whenever we write a letter, the letter comes here, and they receive it at the reception. As to whether the Ministry receives the message or not, we don’t know because no replies ever come,” the leader added.

According to the graduates, the government has not undertaken postings for School of Hygiene graduates since 2021.
