The Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of targeting members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for arrests over to social media activities.
Speaking on the recent detention of Bono Regional NPP Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, he alleged that more than 16 members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had been arrested since the government assumed office.
In a report by myjoyonline.com on May 19, 2026, he claimed the individuals were detained over comments and posts on social media considered unfavourable to the government.
“Over sixteen NPP persons have been arrested for simply making comments on social media or posting things on social media that the government finds unpalatable,” he alleged.

Oppong Nkrumah further lamented Abronye DC’s protracted detention.
“In the case of Kwame Baffoe Abronye, he was earlier arrested, denied bail and now, Abronye has been detained from last Wednesday till today; So, I am speaking to you,” he said.
He also alleged that Abronye’s family, political associates and legal representatives had been denied access to him, accusing the government of using arrests and detention to suppress dissenting voices.
“The whole idea is to intimidate people and ensure that everybody keeps quiet when they are failing on delivering on the promises they made to the Ghanaian people,” he added.
Oppong Nkrumah said the NPP would challenge the situation through public advocacy and legal means.
