Ghana will begin their quest to return to the top of African football after being drawn in a challenging Group C for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, following the official draw held in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducted the draw at the headquarters of the Egyptian Football Association, setting the stage for the road to the continental tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027.

The Black Stars have been placed in Group C alongside regional rivals Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, and Somalia, a group that promises both high-intensity clashes and opportunities for redemption.

For Ghana, the campaign carries added weight. The four-time African champions failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, marking their first absence from the tournament since 2004. That disappointment has intensified pressure on the team to rebuild and reclaim their place among Africa’s elite.

Group D features South Africa, Guinea, Kenya, and Eritrea, while Nigeria are in Group L with Madagascar, Tanzania, and Guinea-Bissau.
