An operation by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has led to the arrest of some Chinese nationals at the Jin Yuan Jia mattress manufacturing plant in Afienya.

A video shared on social media by Sika Official on May 19, 2026, showed officials from the Authority dragging one Chinese national by his T-shirt during the confrontation, while his colleagues stood nearby during the operation.

Following the incident, two Chinese nationals were seen handcuffed.

According to reports, the two were picked up by law enforcement officers attached to the GSA taskforce on Monday, May 18, 2026, after they were allegedly caught operating in direct violation of a state closure order issued against the company in October 2025.

The facility was originally shut down seven months ago after a comprehensive regulatory audit reportedly revealed that the company had failed to obtain the required regulatory approval to operate from the national standards regulator.

According to enforcement records from the GSA, the shutdown followed extensive laboratory tests conducted on raw manufacturing materials and finished products sampled from multiple production lines at the Afienya facility.

The tests allegedly found that the mattresses and related products did not meet approved specifications and quality standards, posing possible structural and health risks to consumers.

Rather than addressing the identified issues and regularising their documentation with the state, management of Jin Yuan Jia Limited allegedly broke the official GSA seals under the cover of darkness and resumed full-scale commercial manufacturing operations.
