A man has stirred controversy after publicly defending his decision to live with his wife’s younger sister following the collapse of his marriage, claiming his wife repeatedly cheated on him before their relationship broke down.
Speaking on a televised arbitration programme on Oyerepa TV, the man recounted a series of events he said pushed him into the unexpected relationship.
In a video snippet, the man claimed his marriage began facing challenges after he travelled to the Volta Region in search of better financial opportunities.
“In my culture, it is a sacrilege for a woman to have an extra-marital affair,” he said while narrating his ordeal on the programme.
He claimed that upon returning home, he discovered his wife had been unfaithful with another man.
Despite the alleged betrayal, the man said he decided to forgive her in order to preserve the marriage and protect their family, especially because they already had a child together.
He disclosed that he performed traditional rituals in the middle of the night, using water in a bowl, while praying for forgiveness and protection against any spiritual consequences tied to the alleged infidelity.
According to him, tensions in the marriage escalated when his wife allegedly began returning home late at night and later confessed that she no longer loved him.
“She told me she would rather prostitute,” he alleged.
The man further claimed that his wife later travelled to the Northern Region with their two-year-old child. While there, he received news that the child had died.
He alleged that during subsequent discussions, he discovered his wife had once again been involved with another man.
“When I confronted her about how her actions could have led to the death of the child, she told me the child died before she went in for another man,” he recounted.
The man said he travelled to the Northern Region after hearing the news and again performed rituals to ward off what he described as possible bad omens linked to the situation.
He added that both families later intervened and held extensive discussions aimed at resolving the marital dispute.
Although he initially intended to move on with his life after returning to the south, he said family members persuaded his wife to return and continue the marriage.
However, the relationship reportedly deteriorated further.
The man explained that at a later stage, he intended to send his wife’s younger sister back to the north, but she allegedly refused to leave.
“So, I was preparing to send her sister to the north after our relationship turned sour, but she wouldn’t go. So, I decided to live with her instead,” he stated.
When questioned by the programme host about whether he had been romantically involved with his wife’s sister before the marriage broke down, the man denied the allegation.
